Developing spiritual abilities

When I first started to learn about spirituality I had no idea what to expect. I thought it was about becoming a magician spiriting away all the unwanted and magically creating anything I liked. How was I supposed to imagine what it would be like as I did not know anything about it? I spent a lot of time being disappointed because it was not what I had expected based on my restricted consciousness.

Humans with special spiritual abilities have not necessarily solved their issues. It is a misbelieve to think that life's challenges dissolve if we are able to e.g. have out of body experiences, or levitate, or materialize things, or bend spoons. I used to think people with such abilities have automatically mastered their lives but that is not necessarily the case.

There are black magicians using their abilities to deliberately harming others. Quite often these black magicians are not free themselves and are controlled by foreign dark beings, masters, or gurus although they do have enormous spiritual skills at their disposal. Anyway, life's challenges are not necessarily easier to be solved only by having such skills.

For me personally at some point in time it became more important to solve my tasks with the means available to me. In the course of time we develop more and more means to deal with things in life in different ways. We discover more and more what reality is about and how to have a stronger influence on reality. As a byproduct we probably develop or discover more spiritual abilities and that will happen as and when they are needed.

However, only because one apparently does have magic abilities it does not necessarily mean that this person is able to solve more than those who do not or not yet have such abilities. We have everything we need to walk our own way. We have everything we need to solve our very own issues. If we miss necessary abilities we will meet someone to help us, or we are the one helping someone else.

Maybe it is our destiny to be a spiritual magician maybe it is not. Everybody has to figure out what one's abilities are and nobody is more or less important because of his or her abilities being different.

Everybody does have a different task book in life that is different to our neighbor's task book. Therefore it does not make sense to copy the other one's solution but rather to see what we can learn from it to solve our own issues. We may use our own talents and abilities or even acquire additional ones to get there. The question is, do we want to focus on acquiring an ability not knowing whether we need it or not, or do we focus on solving our tasks?

There is no right or wrong. Maybe it is part of our job to acquire a particular ability at all cost and strive for it. Anything is possible. But we should not be discouraged if there are things not lying on our way. If we are finding closed doors, sometimes the universe lets us know there is a better way.

A learning job does not necessarily mean one can spirit away the challenge because then we miss the experience of facing it. It is more about us subconsciously creating a playing field that is necessary to have all our experiences, and to learn what is needed. Thus, we learn to play with restricted means.

In this context a story springs to my mind: A tennis player was so good that he could defeat all the others. However, this was dull, so he decided to play with his weak hand. He still won and it was still dull, so he decided to hop on one leg … et cetera et cetera … until he finally had the experience of being defeated. He was not able to have this experience while using all his abilities completely. In order to learn he needed to limit himself.

For most of us it is the other way around. We are currently having the experience of limitation and would like to be the tennis player living and rediscovering his or her full potential again.

Let us not wait until we are the top player. Let us experience all the way to get there with all the devotion needed to live life in its complete beauty and fullness. All that is needed is already there.

If something does not work right away there can be many different reasons. Here is one example from one of my earlier seminar visits: We did an exercise. It was about seeing the aura around people. In this case it was a certain way in which the aura was to be perceived. Therefore, we were sitting in a semi dark room with only the canvas in front lighted up from the back. One person had to sit in front of this canvas and the others should observe what was to be seen around this person.

The instructor reported how in a different course for example one could see wings behind the person, hazy, shadowy, representing the guardian angel. This time our job was to concentrate on the third eye of the person which can be found in between the eyebrows. At the same time we were meant not to focus too strong but let loose somehow.

Then the show began, the face of the person started to change and the spectator could see other faces appearing, hazy, shadowy though. Those faces where the ones the person had had in other lifetimes. It was like a movie and the changing shades around the face visible for everybody in the room.

For everybody? No, not for me. I had only seen the beginning and when the movie started fear overcame me and I stopped, I could not follow any longer. However, I heard the others saying, "look, there she looks like a Native American", "Yes, I can see it also", "and there she looks like a prehistoric man" and so forth … I was disappointed because I was not able to follow the movie. But I knew it was running because I had seen the beginning.

Although I was taken aback a little because everybody was seeing the same and one time the instructor even rewound the movie so everybody could see how the person was an animal before she went for human lives. Was this a sort of mass hypnosis? I had doubts and these doubts let me drop out. The instructor mentioned that this exercise works best for skeptics if they have drunk a glass of wine. Thus, they are not surprised any longer to see unusual things.

Later I asked whether one could do this exercise at home in front of a mirror to see one's own lives. The instructor answered this is more difficult because most people get afraid and drop out.

But in my case I had dropped out during the seminar. As I am very ambitious I could not resist practicing the exercise at home in front of a mirror. I wanted to see what the others had seen. And I wanted to be free to see what my Higher Self showed me instead of seeing what the group altogether was meant to see.

When the first pictures appeared in front of me, my reaction was exactly as predicted by the instructor, my fear made me stop. But I repeated the exercise again and again and the fear disappeared because after a while I already knew what the first pictures were like and thus got used to them. By doing this I could get into my own movie more and more and could see images from other lifetimes, my own ones. By the way, there were extraterrestrials among them as well.

Thus, sometimes it is quite useful to experience failure only to draw motivation from it to do things we might otherwise not do. We never know and again it is about staying open and let oneself be surprised.
